Rush on the Colbert Report

July 16 marked Rush’s first American TV appearance in 33 years; they were guests on the Colbert Report, doing a brief interview and a performance of “Tom Sawyer”. Neil Peart gets in some zingers, and they all sign Colbert’s hand. All in a day’s work!

I just watched this a couple of days ago and it was a ton of fun. I used to listen to a lot of Rush in my teens but rarely do these days. But I guess you never stop loving your old faves because danged if that performance didn’t conjure up the old feelings again. I laughed my head off when Colbert asked them if by the end of one of their songs they get influenced by the start of the song since it was so much earlier in their career (referencing how long their songs can get sometimes.)

BTW: Just stumbled across your blog and it’s great. Good job.

Haha, that part of the show was hilarious! I was cracking up the entire time, even though there was very little “interview” and more of “Colbert tossing a whole lot of really funny things at the band”. I’m OK with that. And the performance didn’t hurt either.

And aww, thanks! I’m really glad you like it.
