Hey Sean! Haha, I’m glad I made the grade with the Hawksley comparison. I’ll admit it wasn’t entirely original — someone recently compared Tielli’s voice to Hawksley’s in my company, and I spent the next few weeks going “Wow, that’s so true!” — but I’ll take what I can get.

I have yet to get my hands on the new Martin Tielli but now I am itching for it. Perhaps a trip to the music store this weekend.

Hello Ruhee,

I love a good music descriptor quote and this one- “think an intense-er Hawksley Workman”, made me smile. Bang on too! Well done.

I think the Rheostatics will always be one of my favourite Canadian bands. They will always remind me of this country in the best of ways. ‘Melville’ is such an awesome recording and a great listen from start to finish. One of those “important” ones that influences my listening habits to this day. I’ve been meaning to transfer this to my iTunes and this assessment just sealed the deal.

No, I still haven’t been able to see them (!) but I’ve been listening to Mountain Meadows a shocking amount all week. It’s making its way up the list of “best albums ever,” actually.

I’m sure I can hook you up with an album or two if you see fit to explore the Rheos further; sometimes they take a while to settle into, but it’s totally worth it. Plus Martin Tielli has a new solo record out that is really excellent. (And thanks re: terrible Canadian bands … ha ha!)

Were you at an Elliott Brood show recently? Gawd they always put on such a great show!

I really only know the Rheostatics through CBC radio, but I should get to know their music more intimately. You know, for the sake of my Canadianity.

I got a kick out of seeing which crap overrated bands you pinpointed. Nicely chosen!
